Maximizing DSI benefit-sharing for the Multilateral Mechanism

DATE: October 22, 2024

LOCATION: Subnational and Local Authorities, Plaza One

Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) are developing a multilateral mechanism for benefit-sharing from the use of digital sequence information(DSI) on genetic resources. As Parties design the new mechanism and its global fund, they should consider how to ensure the maximal benefits derived from use of DSI are captured. This side event will look at key issues to consider, including future-proofing, the key role played by databases, harmonisation across different benefit sharing instruments, and the role of non-monetary benefits.
